Mont Destin lodge is our African inspired, rustic, thatched rondawel nestled at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountains in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands. It is self catering and equipped with all basic amenities including luxury linen, bath towels and gowns. There is an honesty bar, tea-and-coffee making facilities and place to BBQ on the wooden terrace. The private secluded bath and shower are outdoors, hence the red wine bath is only available during April – September and is of course weather permitting. To read our guest reviews please scroll down.

Mont Destin Lapa Reviews:

Booking.com:

Weyler:  “Location, quietness, friendliness of staff, the unique experience of staying in a place surrounded by vineyards and in close contact with nature and the estate’s excellent wines.” – July 2016

Jules: “Amazing location. Very peaceful. Loved the noise of the frog symphony from the pond every night. Great being on the wine estate and being able to stroll around and enjoy in the evening. Great venue for braais!” – July 2016

– December 2016

Darren: “The perfect place to unwind, power-down and learn to appreciate the simple things in life like wine, outside bathing, beautiful sunsets and friendly wildlife (dogs). Thank you for an awesome stay.” – December 2016

Laurie: “We loved our two nights staying here and would highly recommend. The setting is peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting at the outside table in the afternoon sunshine, looking out over vineyards to the mountains beyond whilst enjoying a cold beer / glass of wine… bliss! The ‘Lapa’ itself is very comfortable, spacious but cosy and offers a unique experience. The outside shower is also fantastic! Mont Destin is a beautiful boutique vineyard and we took advantage of the free wine tasting on offer from Karien, who was both friendly and knowledgeable. The wines were nice and distinctive. Another huge, huge bonus with this accommodation is Floreal restaurant only a few minutes walk away at the Marianne vineyard next door (accessible via footpaths, well away from main road). We had two outstanding meals here. Ian and Riki who run it are great. Not to be missed! Thank you Samantha and Karien for everything, we hope to return one day.” – November 2016

Andre: “Lovely little cottage in a beautiful estate with great location. Very nice hosts with adorable dogs to keep you good company in the quietness of the place.” – October 2016

Tuanni: “Absolutely loved the hut! It was perfect after traveling from LA to Stellenbosch. It was peaceful, clean, well stocked with towels, blankets and wine. Check in was easy as Kieran meet me with the key and some helpful tips. I picked up a few items from the market, made a braai (Bbq) on the outdoor grill. The wine tasting room on sight is lovely and I walked to the nearby restaurant which was delicious. I would definitely stay again!” – July 2016

Jonathan: “Samantha’s guest home was a wonderful experience for us. This is not your ordinary AirBnB. This is a very unique experience! A story to share! We were greeted by Samantha herself and Karien managed our stay. Management was very friendly and helpful. The guest home is well stocked and a comfortable stay. Wi-Fi is only available in the main hall. Please note that Uber and Taxis are scarce in this area. Please plan ahead, i.e., rent a car or hire full day wine tours. Note: Make sure you taste all the Mont Destin wines. Their production process is very special. Quality of wines are top notch. I won’t spoil the rest.” – June 2016

Saskia: “Awesome place to be – peaceful, tranquil and really friendly hosts. The lapa is super cute and cosy – the perfect getaway. The wines are equally good and really a treat – especially the “Sunday” one.” – May 2016

Kirsten: “Mont Destin is just right as a romantic retreat. Small and cozy – just perfect. Everything just as on the photos. Thank you so much!” – May 2016

Jean: “This nature retreat was all as described and more. Lionell and Daleen were very gracious and thoughtful and made sure we had everything we needed. The rondavel was comfortable, the deck provided a lovely place to sit outdoors, and the setting was gorgeous.” – March 2016

Yasmin: “This is a wonderful place! Stargazing, enjoy the being in nature and just BE! The location is wonderful and one can enjoy a few days alone. Highly recommend it.” – May 2016

Kayleigh: “Everything we wanted and more! What an amazing experience, to be sleeping in the vineyard and drinking the wine! No one disturbs you, so it’s just you and your partner in the vineyard, bliss! The accommodation was so quirky, clean and had everything you needed. I had so many restaurants I wanted to try for dinner but never ended up eating out, we just wanted to sit under the stars and braai! We even saw a shooting star! Def will be back and for longer. Will try the wine bath next time, we just ran out of time. 20 mins to Franschhoek, 10mins to Stellenbosch centre, so location was fantastic! Karien and Samantha were fantastic hosts!” – March 2016

Mike: “This was the perfect booking for me and my spouse for a few days. It is quiet and removed from everything but also cozy and homey and the view of the stars at night is worth it by itself. The whole vineyard is surrounded by a hidden fence which made us feel secure from the roaming zebras in the next parcel over. The Estate the vineyards are on is small and personal, we stopped in for a tasting and it was one of our favourites in the whole region. There is also a great little place a short walk down that does a wonderful complete breakfast. This is the only guest house on the premises so it felt much more like we were being hosted as guests rather than accommodated as tourists. The outside bath and shower are not the only facilities (there is one inside too).” – February 2016

Christine: “A wonderful, peaceful, restful place to stay in a beautiful setting. A must-do if spending a few days in the Stellenbosch area! Lionell and Daleen were very welcoming and helpful with information. This is an excellent location to explore the local vineyards. I highly recommend it, and will return if ever in the area again.” – February 2016

Cemal: “The house was beautiful with the vineyard and the view even better than you can see at the pictures. Everything was well organised. The host was always there when needed.” – February 2016

Nicola: “What an absolute gem of a discovery. We booked very last minute and found on arrival that they are booked solid for the next 2 months (hardly surprising). This is the only chalet on this lovely little boutique winery and it’s a little slice of heaven! A spacious brick and thatched round room with a large comfortable bed, reasonable living space and basic amenities (fridge, kettle, tea, coffee, wine etc). Fan to keep you cool and a lovely inside shower. However for us the real selling point was the secluded outdoor shower and bath. Sitting in a lovely warm bath with my husband watching the sunrise was one of the highlights of my trip to South Africa, and it was just as fun with our sundowner. Lovely outside decking on a tiny little pond with all you would need for your own braai. Cannot recommend enough. VERY friendly people, fantastic facilities and heavenly location.” – February 2016
